San Diego State University Research Foundation (SDSURF)
Providing Funds for SDSU's Research Agenda

Annually, SDSU Research Foundation provides several million dollars to the University administration and to faculty principal investigators, primarily to support active sponsored projects and develop new ones. Monies are traditionally used for faculty grants-in-aid, research faculty recruitment, joint doctoral students, research equipment match, bridge funding for sponsored projects, "seed" money to develop new projects, and other support to enhance SDSU's reputation for conducting successful educational, research, and community service programs.


San Diego Prevention Research Center (SDPRC)
The San Diego Prevention Research Center is an interdisciplinary academic-community partnership committed to conducting research and education to promote physical activity and improve the health of Latino populations.


National Institutes of Health (NIH)
Composed of 27 Institutes and Centers, the NIH provides leadership and financial support to researchers in every state and throughout the world.
For over a century, the National Institutes of Health has played an important role in improving the health of the nation. The NIH traces its roots to 1887 with the creation of the Laboratory of Hygiene at the Marine Hospital in Staten Island, NY.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The CDC is one of the 13 major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which is the principal agency in the United States government for protecting the health and safety of all Americans and for providing essential human services, especially for those people who are least able to help themselves.

CDC is committed to achieving true improvements in people's health. To do this, the agency is defining specific health impact goals to prioritize and focus its work and investments and measure progress.

National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
The NHLBI provides leadership for a national program in diseases of the heart, blood vessels, lung, and blood; blood resources; and sleep disorders. Since October 1997, the NHLBI has also had administrative responsibility for the NIH Woman's Health Initiative. The Institute plans, conducts, fosters, and supports an integrated and coordinated program of basic research, clinical investigations and trials, observational studies, and demonstration and education projects

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and
Kidney Diseases
(NIDDK)
The NIDDK
conducts and supports research on many of the most serious diseases affecting public health. The Institute supports much of the clinical research on the diseases of internal medicine and related subspecialty fields as well as many basic science disciplines.
The Institute supports basic and clinical research through investigator-initiated grants, program project and center grants, and career development and training awards. The Institute also supports research and development projects and large-scale clinical trials through contracts.

National Cancer Institute (NCI)
The National Cancer Institute coordinates the National Cancer Program, which conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.


American Cancer Society (ACS)
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
